Andy Fisher is a secondary school teacher on the east coast of England, a profession he has embraced because he says it offers a vehicle through which to engage young people with their own heroic imagination. Growing up in a military family, Andy developed a sense of adventure which has informed his own path; he has worked as a circus performer in Malaysia, a nightclub bouncer and close protection officer, but insists that teaching is still the most dangerous vocation he has experienced to date!
When not struggling under piles of marking, or reenacting famous historical battles with his son Kit using Playmobil figures, he runs obstacle course races, is a qualified wilderness survival instructor and is a martial artist. More recently he has taken up a 1000-day challenge to become a world-ranked knife thrower. He also cooks!
Andy is the author of ‘The Hero Forge’, a practical guide to developing the mindset and competencies necessary to make a difference in the world. He argues that heroism is not a reflex, but a choice and it is one that is available to all of us, at any given moment. His hope is that one day, heroes will be so ubiquitous that the term will become anachronistic!
