Ari Kohen
Ari Kohen is Schlesinger Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Forsythe Family Program on Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His most recent book, Untangling Heroism: Classical Philosophy and the Concept of the Hero was published by Routledge in 2014. Recent articles have appeared in Human Rights Review, Journal of Human Rights, Journal of Humanistic Psychology, Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy, Social Justice Research, Politics, and Polis. Kohen was recognized with the University of Nebraska’s 2011 College Distinguished Teaching Award.
He is presently at work on a multi-year empirical study of the impact of social justice education on student engagement, as well as a new book-length project on the common characteristics of contemporary heroes.
Outside of the academy, Kohen serves on the Board of Governance of the Institute for Holocaust Education in Omaha, Nebraska and on the Board of Directors of the Hero Construction Company.
