Jeremy Mitchell is the principal of Indian Hill Elementary in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Currently, his most valued professional passion project includes his volunteerism with The Positivity Project, a nonprofit character education movement born out of positive psychology research. The Positivity Project’s mission is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships by helping them understand the character strengths of themselves and others.

Searching for a way to help students solve social issues with peers, he stumbled upon the early stages of the project when a fellow Army veteran was tagged in a social media post: prior to his second act as an educator, Mitchell served as an Army Infantry Officer with the storied 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan. The Positivity Project founders, Mike Erwin and Jeff Bryan, are West Point graduates and veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and like Mitchell are seeking to serve their country in a different way, by helping students and educators build an empathetic mindset.

In addition to the demanding role of school principal, and volunteering to grow The Positivity Project, Mitchell is working toward a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with a focus on positive psychology and it’s role as a framework for organizational change from Oakland University.

Jeremy lives in Hartland, Michigan with his beautiful wife Nicole, their awesome and fun children Lena (5) and Grant (2).
